BIG UPDATE : BrahMos Aerospace to increase speed of existing BrahMos missiles beyond Mach 4
BrahMos Aerospace, while actively developing the Mach 3.5 capable BrahMos Next Generation (NG) missile and the Mach 7 capable BrahMos-2K hypersonic missile, is now also concentrating on enhancing the speed of its existing BrahMos missiles. This effort is designed to ensure that the missile system remains at the forefront of military technology.
The BrahMos missile has seen various upgrades over the years, particularly in terms of range and capabilities. However, its speed has consistently hovered around Mach 2.9. That is set to change, as BrahMos Aerospace is now working to push the performance of its Liquid Ram Jet Engine beyond Mach 4. This upgrade would bring the missile into the lower hypersonic range, typically defined by speeds above Mach 5.
By enhancing the speed, BrahMos Aerospace seeks to give the missile a more formidable capability, ensuring that it continues to be one of the most advanced supersonic cruise missiles in service.
