MBDA offers Meteor-NG BVRAAM for India’s AMCA 5th generation stealth fighter
European defense company MBDA has proposed the Meteor-NG (Next Generation) beyond-visual-range air-to-air missile (BVRAAM) for integration into India’s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), a fifth-generation stealth fighter currently under development.
The Meteor missile, which boasts a range of 200 kilometers, is already in service with the Indian Air Force, equipped on the fleet of 36 Rafale fighter jets. Additionally, the Indian Navy is preparing to procure approximately 150 Meteor missiles to equip its planned fleet of 26 Rafale Marine Fighters, an acquisition expected to be officially confirmed in July this year.
In addition to its offer for the AMCA program, MBDA has shown interest in equipping the Meteor missile on the Tejas Mark 2 fighter jets. The company is also aiming to integrate the missile into the final batch of 30 Tejas Mark 1A aircraft, which will feature the locally developed Uttam Mark 2 AESA radar.
