Armenian Army completes successful trials of India-supplied ATAGS Artillery Systems, to move forward for ordering 84 more units
The Armenian Army has successfully completed trials of six units of the Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS), a 155mm/52 calibre towed gun supplied by India in 2023. According to sources from the Armenian Army, these guns passed all operational tests conducted at various locations across the country, confirming their reliability and effectiveness. The ATAGS systems were supplied by India’s Kalyani Group, and this initial batch of six guns was customized to meet the specific needs of the Armenian military.
One notable modification was the integration of the Armenian language into the Trajectory Computation Module (TCM), as requested by the Armenian Army. This adjustment ensured that the guns were user-friendly for Armenian soldiers. Several other changes were also made to adapt the artillery systems to local operational requirements and enhance their performance in Armenia’s unique terrain and climate conditions.
Although the guns were previously tested in India before Armenia finalized the purchase, they had not undergone extensive trials under Armenian conditions. The recent testing phase involved rigorous trials to ensure that the ATAGS systems could perform effectively in various locations and environments across Armenia. With the successful completion of these trials, the Armenian Army now has full confidence in the guns' operational capabilities.
This success paves the way for Armenia to move forward with its plans to purchase 84 more ATAGS units from India. The upcoming acquisition will significantly enhance Armenia’s artillery capabilities, providing a crucial boost to the country’s defense forces. With these advanced artillery systems, the Armenian Army will be better equipped to defend its borders and ensure national security. The ATAGS guns, known for their long-range accuracy and precision, will play an important role in strengthening Armenia’s military power and securing its strategic interests.
Overall, the successful testing of the Indian-supplied ATAGS artillery systems marks a major step forward for both India and Armenia in their defense collaboration. This partnership highlights India's growing role as a defense supplier on the international stage and Armenia’s efforts to modernize and strengthen its military forces.
