A former Rear Admiral of the
Indian Navy, Admiral (Retd) Raja Menon has said that the United States has left out
its two vital QUAD partners India and Japan from the
AUKUS (Australia-UK-US)
grouping even though India
and Japan are QUAD-member
countries that face a higher level of Chinese threat than Australia.
Rear Admiral Menon has
advocated that India and Japan
must find common ground and join hands to develop Next Generation Nuclear
Attack Submarines or SSNs, combining their existing submarine technology.
India has already developed its Nuclear Ballistic Missile
Submarine SSBN, while Japan
has mastered the diesel-electric conventional submarines manufacturing, so the
joint development of nuclear attack submarines between India and Japan will significantly reduce the
developmental costs for both countries, this will be a win-win situation
for both.
