The designated area is 170 km in length and 95 km in width which indicates it might be a test of either long-range air to air missiles or an upgraded version of the ground-based air defense missile.
DRDO designed Astra Mk2 beyond visual range air to air missile with a range of 160km is waiting for its first developmental trials after completion of captive and separation trials onboard Su-30MKI aircraft that have been modified for the program.
DRDO is also working on an Indian MR-SAM-ER variant that will have a range of 150km which is also almost ready to begin its developmental trials.
