Indian Army clears doubts on ATAGS : First order for 150 ATAGS in early 2023; 200 units per year from 2024
Two different versions of Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System (ATAGS) made by Bharat Forge Kalyani group and TATA Advanced Systems Ltd at Republic Day Parade 2017

The Indian Army has released a Request For Proposal (RFP) for the procurement of 252 6x6 High Mobility Gun Towing Vehicles through Fast Track procurement under the ‘Buy Indian category’ and the document clearly mentions that it should be able to recover guns up to 20 tons and interestingly the indigenous ATAGS weighs 18 tons which is well within the criteria.

The latest Request For Information (RFI) for 155 millimeters/52 caliber towed gun system notes that the weight of the gun system should be preferably less than 15 tons and we had already reported that the 15 ton is not a weight barrier and is merely a preference and not a stringent requirement and the indigenous ATAGS will soon get an initial order for 150 units.

Bharat Forge Kalyani group is ready to supply 100 ATAGS in the first year and will double its capacity to 200 guns at later stages that will meet the final requirement of 1,700 guns.
