The Indian Air Force has
committed to procure 120 Tejas Mk2 fighters initially followed with 80 more
units in the second batch and as per latest media reports the Aeronautical
Development Agency (ADA) and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) have insisted that
the Indian Air Force should make plans for bulk orders for the Tejas Mk2 when
it is ready for production in 2028 so that it can maintain high production rate
of 48 aircraft per year riding on the bulk order.
A bulk order will also allow clearance of funds to outsource more work to Private Industry as 16 countries have expressed interest in the Tejas Mk2 to replace their F-16, Mig-29 and Mirage 2000 jets.
