Hindustan Aeronautics has
confirmed that the talks with Sukhoi Corporation to procure additional kits for
12 more Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets will take place in 2023.
India is also in talks with Russia to get clearance for Super
Sukhoi upgrade program and out of the 12 new Su-30 aircraft, 10 aircraft will
carry most of the minor Super Sukhoi upgrades and remaining two aircraft will
become the test bed for the comprehensive Super Sukhoi upgrade program that
will feature major changes in whole aircraft systems.
HAL has also planned to use
most of the Indian sourced components in Super Sukhoi upgrade program to reduce
dependence on Russian firms for maintenance and to increase operational
flexibility of the massive 260+ Sukhoi fleet of IAF.
