The French Rafale fighter jet and Eurofighter Typhoon were the only two aircraft that had cleared technical rounds of trials in the previous MMRCA tender and Eurofighter lost to the Rafale aircraft by a small margin.

Even after losing the bid, the Eurofighter had offered 20% more discount and also proposed enhancing the transfer of technology process through a comprehensive training and support program and creation of an Eurofighter Typhoon Industrial Park in India but the Defense Ministry did not accept this offer stating that it was an unsolicited offer.

The Eurofighter Consortium is now planning to respond to the 114 MRFA request for proposal that the Indian Air Force plans to issue by end of this year with major price cuts that will make the Eurofighter Typhoon much cheaper than the French Rafale fighter jet under new regulations.

18 aircraft will be procured directly from the winning tender and the rest 96 aircraft will be Made in India but this time there will be no mandatory transfer of technology or any offset obligations that will allow foreign vendors to make aggressive price cuts as soon as proposals are received.

The Indian Air Force will hold a technical round of trials of selected jets that meets all the clauses and technical requirements.
