More Sukhoi Su-30MKI squadrons to be equipped with Astra Mk1 BVRAAMs

The Ministry of Defense and the Indian Air Force are looking to scale up the production of the Astra Mk 1 missile as Hindustan Aeronautics and the Indian Air Force are working on enabling 4 more Sukhoi Su-30 squadrons to equip them with the Astra Mk 1 missile.

By the end of 2023, a Sukhoi Su-30 aircraft will test an Astra Mk 1 missile equipped with the indigenous AESA seeker built by Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) after which 100 units of Astra Mk 1 with indigenous seeker will be procured per year from Bharat Electronics Limited.

From 2023 onwards trials of the Astra Mk 1 from the Tejas Mk1 will be carried out soon so that the 83 Tejas Mk1A comes equipped with Astra Mk 1 missiles when its delivery starts in 2024.
