Boeing-Embraer joint venture: KC-390 becomes C-390 Millenium |
Brussel-based
aircraft manufacturer Embraer has said that the company is looking to secure
additional sales of its ERJ-145 platform for the Indian Air Force's natural
program.
Embraer officials also confirmed that they have pitched the C-390 Millennium Multi-Mission Aircraft to the Indian Air Force and have briefed Indian Air Force officials about the aircraft.
The C-390 is a direct challenger to the American C-130J Super Hercules which is already operated by the Indian Air Force and is looking to procure six more C-130J to further expand its fleet for a wide array of missions.
The Embraer C-390 has fuel efficient engines and has a ferry range of 6,130 kilometers which is higher than the 3,900 kilometers range of the C-130J. It has a maximum payload capacity of 26 metric tons and can air drop 19 metric tons of load or 66 paratroopers with full operational gear.
