AMCA Mk2 to have Mach 2.15 speed ; Rollout by 2026 : Group Director of AMCA Program
Source : IgMp Bureau
While the
specification of AMCA always showed its top speed to be around 1.8 Mach (2,222.64
kmph), the Group Director of AMCA program has now confirmed for the first time that
the AMCA Mark-II will have a top speed of 2.15 Mach (2,600 kmph) and a combat
range of 1,620 kilometers.
This will make the AMCA the fastest 5th Generation+ Stealth fighter jet in the world.
The AMCA Mark-I will be 70% indigenous while the AMCA Mark-II will be 90% indigenous and only the Martin Baker ejection seat will be the major imported component in the Mark-II variant.
The first AMCA will be rolled out in 2026 that will be followed by 4 more AMCA Technology Demonstrators (TD) that will cost 900 crore rupees each.
The prices of each jet will fall when the AMCA will enter full scale production around 2031.
ADA has already requested 15000 crores for the AMCA development from the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) and is confident that approvals will come anytime soon. When compared to F-22 and F-35 development program costs, AMCA developmental cost is merely just over 9% of these two programs.
