The Vice Chief of the Indian
Navy conducted an on-site review of the indigenous Air Independent Propulsion
(AIP) system for Project-75 submarines which is being developed by the DRDO at
the Naval Materials Research Laboratory.
The DRDO has said that the AIP system is currently configured for P-75 submarines and it has received safety interface acceptance and permission from the French submarine designer Naval Group.
It is a modular system that can be easily configured for any conventional submarine platform.
The Indian Navy has directed the DRDO to complete the AIP system on a war footing so that it can be integrated into the 1st Kalvari class submarine INS Kalvari in 2025.
