Port Blair:
Indian Navy and Andaman Nicobar Command demonstrated its combat readiness by successfully destroying target at sea through anti-ship version of Brahmos missile at Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

A video of the successful missile launch was tweeted by the Andaman & Nicobar Command.

The Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) is the first integrated theatre command in India.

Recently, a BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully tested from the guided-missile destroyer INS Delhi. The test of the anti-ship variant of the missile was conducted using an upgraded modular launcher. The missile travels at speed around 3,000 kmph and is difficult to intercept by air defence systems. The missile without a warhead created a hole in the abandoned ship.

On April 19, 2022, the Indian Air Force (IAF) also successfully tested a Brahmos supersonic cruise missile from a Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighter jet on the eastern seaboard on the same ship.

Brahmos supersonic cruise missile was developed initially as anti-ship version for launch from ship to ship for the Indian Navy and inducted in Service. Later, land to land version was developed for the Indian Army and IAF.

Brahmos is considered one of the world's best and fastest precision-guided weapon which has strengthened India's credible deterrence in the 21st century.

The Brahmos supersonic cruise missile system is one of the most successful missile programmes in the world. India has undertaken jointly in partnership with its closest strategic ally Russia.

The Brahmos is a medium-range ramjet supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarine, ships, aircraft, or land. It is the fastest cruise missile in the world. The missile has been jointly developed by DRDO, India, and NPOM, Russia.

In a major achievement, supersonic air to surface cruise missile Brahmos was integrated and successfully launched from Su-30 MKI fighter aircraft for the first time in the world.

The missile has flight range of up to 290-km with supersonic throughout the flight, leading to shorter flight time. It operates on 'Fire and Forget' principle adopting varieties of flights on its way to the target.

In January 2022, India joined the elite club of missile exporters after BrahMos Aerospace Private Limited (BAPL) signed a contract with the Department of National Defence of the Republic of Philippines for supply of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System to Philippines. Philippines signed the deal for $374.96 (Rs 2,770 crore) million.
