At least 28 maoists killed in encounter in Bastar: Police

At least 28 Naxals were killed in an encounter between security forces and Maoists in the border area of Narayanpur and Dantewada districts, taking the total number of Maoists killed this year to about 200. The number of those killed today could be higher as searches are still ongoing, said Chattishgarh’s government officials. “This major achievement by our brave soldiers is commendable. I salute their courage and indomitable spirit. Our fight to eliminate Naxalism will only end when we achieve complete success, and for this, our double-engine government is fully committed. The eradication of Naxalism from the state is our ultimate goal,” said CM Vishnu Dev Sai.

Union home minister Amit Shah, during his recent visit to the state, had said that Naxalism will end by March 2026. Shah has also sought the creation of a Special Investigation Agency in the states for investigation and prosecution and has urged the state government to come up with a new surrender-cum-rehabilitation policy.

Earlier, the state police along with CRPF killed 15 Maoists in the months of August and September. In June this year, eight Maoists were killed in an encounter in the forests of Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district.

The DRG, Special Task Forces (STF), and Indo-Tibetan Border Police’s (ITBP) 53rd Battalion were involved in the operation. On May 23, seven Maoists were killed in an encounter with security personnel in a forest on Narayanpur-Bijapur inter-district border.

On May 10, around 12 Maoists were killed in an encounter with security forces in Bijapur district. Ten Maoists, including three women, were killed in an encounter with security personnel in a forest along the border of Narayanpur and Kanker districts on April 30.
