DRDO planning a full fledged Hypersonic Missile Test; 2 Separate Missiles under development with Different Range and Speed

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has initiated the development of an advanced fuel tank for its upcoming Hypersonic Cruise Missile, marking a significant leap in missile technology. This new fuel tank will be far superior to existing systems, offering longer range and improved operational efficiency. The enhancement in fuel capacity and design is expected to allow the missile to maintain hypersonic speeds for extended durations, positioning India at the forefront of missile innovation.

DRDO has already started fabricating the cruise vehicle for the Hypersonic Cruise Missile, and the upcoming test will feature a complete prototype. This full-fledged test is a critical milestone in India's effort to develop its own hypersonic capabilities, a technology mastered by only a few nations globally.

Two variants of the Hypersonic Cruise Missile are currently under development. The first variant is a surface-to-surface missile with a projected range of 2,500 kilometers. This missile, designed to achieve hypersonic speeds, could potentially enter service as early as 2025. Its long-range and speed make it a formidable weapon, capable of outmaneuvering current defense systems.

The second variant is a compact air-launched missile with a range of 700 kilometers. This version, specifically designed to be launched from aircraft, will reach speeds up to Mach 10, giving it the ability to strike targets with incredible speed and precision. The air-launched variant’s compact design allows for versatility and adaptability across different combat scenarios, significantly boosting India’s military strike capabilities.

The operationalization of this Hypersonic Cruise Missile will position India among a select group of nations with access to this game-changing technology. Hypersonic missiles are known for their devastating impact and ability to evade even the most advanced air defense systems, as evidenced during the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where Russian hypersonic missiles have successfully penetrated Western defense networks.

Once deployed, India’s Hypersonic Cruise Missile will provide a strategic advantage, reshaping the nation's defense landscape. With its exceptional speed, range, and maneuverability, this missile has the potential to change the outcome of future conflicts and serve as a powerful deterrent in the region.
