Army personnel critically injured in terrorist attack on army camp in Jammu

An army personnel was critically injured in Jammu on Monday when suspected terrorists opened fire on a sentry post at the Sunjawan Military Station. Officials said the incident triggered a massive search operation to locate and neutralize the gunmen.

A defence spokesman stated that a few rounds were fired at the Sunjawan Military Station in the outskirts of Jammu at around 10.50 am, resulting in critical injuries to a soldier.

“Operation has been launched and further details being ascertained,” the spokesman said without providing details about the assailants who fired on the sentry post.

Officials mentioned that a brief exchange of gunfire took place when the suspected terrorists opened a few rounds on one of the army posts guarding one of the biggest security camps in the winter capital.

The firing led to panic, prompting the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the local police to rush to the scene to join the army in the search operation aimed at hunting down the fleeing terrorists.

The search operation is ongoing, but there has been no contact with the terrorists so far, according to officials. In a previous incident in February 2018, the Sunjawan Military Camp was attacked by terrorists, resulting in the deaths of six soldiers, a civilian, and three terrorists.
