The Ministry of Home Affairs announced this decision on Thursday, marking a significant change in the region’s security leadership.

Nalin Prabhat: 1992 Batch IPS officer from Andhra Cadre

Prabhat, a 1992 batch IPS officer from the Andhra Pradesh cadre, has been sent to Jammu and Kashmir with “immediate effect,” according to the Ministry of Home Affairs order. Nalni Prabhat: A Decorated Career

At 55, Prabhat is a highly respected officer, having won the police gallantry medal three times. He has a distinguished record, including heading the ‘Greyhounds,’ a specialized anti-Naxal police force in Andhra Pradesh. His extensive experience in handling sensitive operations is evident from his past roles in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), where he served as the Inspector General (IG) of operations and Additional Director General (ADG) overseeing deployments in Kashmir.

Curtailment of NSG Tenure

In a related development, the government has curtailed Prabhat’s tenure as the Director General of the National Security Guard (NSG). An order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved the Ministry of Home Affairs’ proposal to reduce his term as NSG chief. Additionally, the ACC sanctioned Prabhat’s inter-cadre deputation from Andhra Pradesh to the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre for an initial period of three years, or until further orders, whichever comes first. This decision was made in relaxation of the inter-cadre deputation guidelines.Prabhat’s appointment is seen as a critical move, considering his vast experience and the ongoing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir.
