Solar Group's EEL Ltd to develop HIMARS like system for the Indian Army
Lockheed Martin M142 HIMARS

The Indian private sector firm Economic Explosives Limited (EEL) has submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Defense to develop an indigenous all-weather High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) which is similar to the HIMARS system used by the U.S Army.

The system will have a range of 250 kilometers and will feature shoot and scoot capability which means that the highly mobile weapon system can fire and retreat at speed thus reducing the chance of being targeted by the enemy.

M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System

Now the proposal submitted by EEL to Ministry of Defense for the development of a system similar to HIMARS includes two different types of rockets or systems in single launching platform, take a detailed look in that, the proposed system will carry similar rocket as Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system but this system will carry only one pod and not just that the private sector company EEL also offers a 250 kilometer range Surface-to-Surface Missile system that can be fired from the same platform by replacing six rockets with this single missile system, so practically a system with the exact same configuration as HIMARS, so in theory Pinaka Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) system will be India's M-270 Multi-Launch Rocket System (MLRS) kind of system and this new system will work as HIMARS.

The 250 kilometer range missile system which we are talking about here is likely the improved variant of Prahar Ballistic missile system.
