Hindustan Aeronautics is getting ready to sign the Tejas Mark 1A deal with the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) and a high-level Malaysian delegation will visit India in September and the deal is likely to be signed during this visit.
In addition to providing the Tejas Light Combat Aircraft, Hindustan Aeronautics will provide Aviation Management, Training, Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul and support local manufacturing and will also offer servicing and upgrades for the Malaysian fleet of Sukhoi Su-30MKM and Hawk Trainer.
The Malaysian decision has tilted in India's favor because the Tejas can accommodate a variety of air-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles and air-to-ground weapons and the open architecture of the Tejas will allow Malaysia to continue using a mix of Russian and NATO weaponry.
The Tejas sale might be followed by a deal for BrahMos Air-Launched Cruise Missiles (ALCM) for the Sukhoi Su-30 fighter jets of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).
