New Delhi: The government, on Tuesday, said that terrorism and related violence has been contained to a large extent due to concentrated effort by all stakeholders. Speaking in Lok Sabha, Minister of State (MoS) for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai said that despite efforts by international terrorist groups such as Al Qaida and the Islamic State, the extent of radicalization is minuscule, as compared to the population of the country.

“Due to concerted and coordinated efforts of all the stakeholders, terrorism-related violence has been contained to a large extent in the country,” Rai told the Lok Sabha during the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Parliament.

Rai also shared data of terror incidents in the Valley, which showed that there has been a slight rise in the deaths of civilians in 2021, as against 2020. As against 62 security personnel who lost their lives in 2020, 42 were martyred in year 2021.

Radicalization most challenging problem faced by world: Rai

Rai added that the radicalization by global terrorist groups like ISIS, Al Qaida is one of the most challenging problems faced by countries in the world.”In Indian context,some foreign agencies inimical to India along with global terrorist groups are making efforts to radicalise people,” he said, adding, “However, inclination towards radical ideologies is minuscule as compared to the population of the country owing to various factors.”

Underlining that combating terrorism is a continuous process, Rai said that the government has taken various steps including the strengthening of legal framework, streamlining of intelligence mechanism, setting up of NIA & prosecution of terror-related cases. He added that the recent initiatives include stepping up border and coastal security, modernization of police forces and capacity building of state police forces among others.
