The DRDO's Defense
Bioengineering and Electromedical Laboratory has released an Expression of Interest
to shortlist technically suitable companies that have in-house capability to
execute the development work of Waste Assistive Powered Exoskeleton known as WAPEXO.
It will be a self-wearable power device weighing less than 15 kilograms that is designed to be fitted on a soldier's upper body that will enhance his weight carrying capability and Locomotion Dynamics will lower metabolic expenditure for activities like bending and lifting loads, walking with load and unloading.
The WAPEXO will comprise of a power source mechanical structure high speed actuators and will be powered by a battery pack with endurance of four hours at normal temperature and pressure.
Five initial units will be made for development trials that will be delivered within four months of signing the contract.
