Instagram account of Indian Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps activated after being suspended for a week
Both Facebook and Instagram accounts of the Indian Army's Srinagar-based Chinar Corps were suspended for more than a week earlier.

The Instagram account of the Indian Army’s Srinagar-based Chinar Corps was activated on Wednesday after being suspended for more than a week. Facebook and Instagram accounts of the Corps had been suspended more than a week ago, Army officials had earlier said.

“Facebook and Instagram have blocked the handles of Chinar Corps, the Indian Army’s strategically located formation in the Kashmir valley, for over a week now and have not responded to the official communication in this regard,” an official told news agency PTI.

Army’s information warfare tools

The Indian Army has been maintaining a presence on social media sites such as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to counter the propaganda being pushed from across the border and to give out authentic information regarding Army’s activities.

According to agency reports, Facebook and Instagram had blocked the handles of Chinar Corps and there was no response to the official queries sent by the Indian Army. For about a week, the Instagram and Facebook accounts of Chinar Corps displayed a message – ‘A link you followed may be broken, or the page may have been removed’.

It may be noted that according to the rulebook, Facebook and Instagram – which are operated by the same company – remove or suspend accounts that do not follow the norms set by the company. However, in this case, the reason behind the suspension of the accounts is yet not known.

Chinar Corps – HQ 15 Corps, as the formation is officially known is a key formation of the Indian Army in the Kashmir valley.
