In an interview with Economic Times, Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) chief Dmitry Shugaev said that We are discussing the further licensed production of the Su-30MKI in India. It’s about an additional 50 fighters.
HAL in past had offered to license-produce 40 additional Sukhoi Su-30MKIs for the IAF, initially, IAF had agreed for 18 additional Su-30MKI but then settled for 12 but it seems that after factoring in possible delays in the Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) Tender process, IAF has finally relented and has decided to procure 50 additional jets.
HAL likely will offer additional 50 Su-30MKI featuring upgraded AESA Fire Control Radar (FCR) that will be an upscaled derivative of the locally developed UTTAM AESA FCR for the LCA-Tejas Mk1 Program along with an Upgraded Mission Computer (MC), upgraded indigenous on-board radar warning receiver (RWR), and Airborne Self Protection Jamming Pod (ASPJ) that India’s Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE) has developed.
