Rustom-2, India’s medium-altitude long-endurance drone being developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation, achieved a huge milestone after critical technologies of Autonomous Take-Off and Landing (ATOL) & also use of GAGAN Satellite system link was successfully proven at Bengaluru.

Rustom-2, also known as Tapas-BH will be going through the last phase of developmental trials and needs to demonstrate a few more key milestones before it can be declared as successfully concluded most likely by mid-2022 that could be followed by Joint User trials with DRDO and Army/Air force officials.

After developing an Indigenous 180 hp Diesel turboprop engine that is suitable for small aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) which was extensively tested on the latest prototype of the Tapas medium-altitude long-endurance (MALE) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), DRDO’s Combat Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (CVRDE) is now developing an uprated 220 hp Diesel turboprop engine variant that is further development of the present engine that was in testing from 2017 onwards.
