PM Modi to hand over First LCH to IAF Soon |
HAL-manufactured Light Combat Helicopter would be handed over officially to the Indian Air Force chief in Jhansi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Nov 19. The first production LSP series Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) in IAF’s tipnis grey livery was seen parked at Yelahanka AFS tarmac at Aero India 2021 earlier this year and it was supposed to be handed over to the Indian Air force soon but was held up since deal for the 15 LCH was expected to have been signed-in the first quarter of 2021 but has been delayed due to the second wave of the pandemic.
Recently First LCH meant for Army was also sported in camo livery. IAF has plans to induct 65 LCH and the Indian Army 114 helicopters. Out of 15 LSP helicopters, 10 are for the IAF and five for the Army.
LCH weighing 5.5 ton can operate at heights of 21,300 ft. Last year Two Prototypes of the LCH were deployed at the forward base in Eastern Ladakh to validate their capabilities at high altitudes due to standoff with the Chinese Army in the region.
