Bengaluru-based Alpha Design Technologies Pvt Ltd (ADTL) has won a contract to supply six VHF or Very High-Frequency radars from Indian Air Force (IAF) in Rs 200+ crore deal after it emerged as an L1 bidder last week. IAF plans to replace its old Soviet-era P-18 early warning radar mounted on Ural-4320 truck chassis that has an unusual feature of counter-stealth capability.
IAF already uses Medium AESA Powered Radar Arundhar, Ashwini, and Rohini 3D Radar for long-range surveillance, the addition of older VHF-type radars seems to be done keeping in mind their counter-stealth capability.
VHF Radar ordered has a detection range of 250+km and will be truck mounted for mobile deployment. It’s still unclear if it will be based on Local indigenous tech or under a Transfer of Technology (ToT) agreement with foreign manufacture.
